Jakarta, 16 February 2016 – PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (Maybank Indonesia) today announces the D Day of the international running event that will be commenced on Sunday, 28 August 2016 in Gianyar, Bali. This is the fifth year of the event. At the same time, Maybank Indonesia also announced the change of event name, from “BII Maybank Bali Marathon” to “Maybank Bali Marathon” in line with the new corporate identity.
Participants will be able to register using on line platform via website www.balimarathon.com that will be opened starting from 15 April 2016 at 00.00 Western Indonesia time. In registration process will apply first come first served principle, whereby for those who register earlier will have bigger chance to be accounted in participants list and will have opportunity for race. Maybank Bali Marathon consists of four categories, those are full-marathon, half-marathon, 10K and children sprint. Participants who are also customers of Maybank Indonesia will have chance to register with special price, based on terms and conditions that will be stipulated and further announced through www.balimarathon.com.
Since it was first carried out on 2012, as the international running contest Maybank Bali Marathon the full marathon and half marathon route has been certified by the International Measurement Certificate number INA2012/009 and has been validated by Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). The route measurement was done by International Measurement Administrator, Dave Cundy, who holds a Grade A IAAF-AIMS course measurer. While the 10K route has been certified by Association for Indonesian Athletic Sports (Pengurus Besar Persatuan Atletik Seluruh Indonesia /PB PASI).
Since 2014, the running event that hosted by Maybank Indonesia has meet qualification in the official directory of Boston Marathon that is one of six World Major marathon series (beside Berlin, New York, London, Chicago and Tokyo Marathon). Only runners who have completed certain marathon events with minimum qualifying time as targeted by the committee will be able to register in Boston Marathon.
Maybank Bali Marathon is also acknowledged as one of Remarkable Races You Need to Run Beore You Die according to The Active Times. Under this version, Maybank Bali Marathon stands side by side with other famous marathons in the world including Boston, New York and Great Wall China Marathon. Besides, in polling of RunHood Instagram Magazine, Maybank Bali Marathon achieves Best Marathon 2015, Best Half Marathon 2015 and Best Finisher Medal 2015.
In 2012, the launch of Maybank Bali Marathon was in line with the rebirth of community enthusiasm with running hobby. Maybank Bali Marathon remarked the rebirth of international full marathon held in Indonesia after absence 22 years in Indonesia sport calendar. In 2012, more than 2,000 participants took part in the full marathon with international standard with a distance of 42.195 kilometers, half-marathon” (21.0975 kilometers) and 10K (10-kilometers). Participants increased to 3,000 participants in 2013 and 4,500 participants in 2014 and more than 5,000 participants in 2015. Besides from Indonesia, there were also participants from overseas, including from Kenya, Ethiopia, Europe, United States of America, Australia and Asia.
“Considering participants enthusiasm that continuously increases from year to year, we project to increase slot of participants around 25% from last year participant numbers. Surely, the increase of slot has to be supported with the readiness of better infrastructures since we have to maintain and ensure the quality, the safety and the convenience of the running contest. In principal, the increase of participants must not sacrifice the quality of contest,” said Taswin Zakaria, President Director of Maybank Indonesia.
According to Taswin, in line with Maybank Indonesia mission of humanising financial services, especially being in the heart of community, Maybank Indonesia has grown and developed together with community of runners since 2012. “We see some participants who started from 10K now have elevated to half marathon and even full marathon. Furthermore, there are non athletes who were able to compete in Maybank Bali Marathon,” he said.
For instance, Indonesian model, Kelly Tandiono managed to be the second winner in 10K Indonesian category in Maybank Bali Marathon 2015. In term of achievement, Indonesian athlete Triyaningsih also manage to record her name in the second winner in 10K open category in Maybank Bali Marathon 2015, among other foreign participants including Kenya runner.
As inseparable part of Maybank Bali Marathon, similar to the previous years, Maybank Indonesia sustainably continues its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Bali, especially in the area along the marathon route. Thousands Bali communities and school children from 27 schools from Gianyar will get involve again welcome participants and make this international running event happening.
“The sustainability CSR has consistently been our positive effort to share with community in Bali in sustainable way. Continuing our CSR initiative to support sport, community health and education that have been done previous years, in 2016 we will focus on to build centre of excellence in Gianyar, with priority of sport and education training,” said Taswin.
